The History of Humble First Assembly of God Minimize
The history of Humble First Assembly of God reads much like the Assemblies of God Organization, in that both began in a cottage prayer meeting.

About 1919 several people in Humble began meeting for prayer in the home of Fannie Jamison. Most of those present have now gone on to be with the Lord, but yet are alive in the memory of the younger generation who now are the recipients of their sacrifice and devotion. They cast their bread upon the waters and we are the promised return. Little did they know to what great proportions those prayer meetings would grow.

Rev. Albert Ott held the first revival, after which Rev. Conner came to be the first pastor. Shortly thereafter, three lots were purchased at Granberry St and Avenue D in Humble. The construction of the building that is still located today began about 1923. In the mid 1950s, during the ministry of Rev. Paul Davidson, Sunday school rooms were added across the back of the building. In the early 1960s under Rev. Gilbert Johnson's ministry, a major remodeling was done on the inside of the church and the outside was completely bricked. Realizing the impending growth of the area, Rev. Johnson in December 1971 located and purchased 5.3 acres of land on South Houston Ave.

After the death of Rev. Johnson in July 1972, Rev. Jack Countryman became the pastor. In the following years many positive things took place, including the sale of the old property on Granberry St. to another Pentecostal church and the building of a new facility located at 1401 South Houston Ave. The first service was held in the new church on December 10, 1978. The church has continued to grow and offers a vibrant diversity of ministries to every age group.

After the retirement of Pastor Countryman in 1992, Rev. Milton Pool became our pastor. Under Pastor Pool's direction, expansion became necessary once again. A tract of almost 20 acres of prime property fronting FM 1960 was purchased. Construction was begun on Phase 1 of the new facility early in 1996. The congregation occupied that initial building, now our Family Life Center, for two years, when it became apparent that Phase 2 must begin. The new sanctuary was completed and the first service held on March 7, 1999. As our community and our church grows, we are preparing to move forward to Phase 3 construction on a Christian Educational Building, which is necessary to accommodate our needs.

Humble First Assembly is a family friendly congregation that offers several different ministries for all ages, infants, children, teens, young adults and all adults up to our Prime Time 50+ group. These ministries fulfill the needs of our community and our neighbors.
